Ever wonder how local Los Angeles artist Shepard Fairey creates some of his more intricate pieces? I mean come on, who hasn’t bought some sort of Obey Giant print in the last 3 years. They are super slick and most are wallet friendly (that’s if you can get your hands on one). Speaking of trying to get your hands on some Obey Giant art, Arkitip Magazine recently released Issue No. 0051 featuring non other than the artist most remembered of his generation, Shepard Fairey. Arkitip Magazine takes a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate 20 Years of Shepard’s seminal ‘Obey’ campaign, by working hand in hand with the prolific artist to deliver not only an amazing piece of contextual periodical but a timeless work of magazine art. “Shepard Fairey’s recent rise to popularity punctuated by his support of the Obama Presidential campaign has made him a household name. His iconic portrait of Barack Obama has come to symbolize the historic campaign of the first African American to be elected President and now that image graces the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian. He’s an artist who stands by what he believes in and has done more to communicate his causes to the masses than most of his contemporaries, which is admirable on any level. His campaigns have done more to shape the public consciousness than any other artist because you don’t have go to a gallery to see his work, its ubiquity is well established.” -Arkitip 2009
With so many mixed opinions towards his controversial method of artistry and creativity, we stand in positivity and praise for this pioneer! That man’s a beast, and by far one of our biggest influences.
Check out this amazing video of Shepard Fairey deep in production or shall I say; Another day at Studio No.2, Los Angeles.
