It is rare to meet someone who both commands your attention for their looks and outward appearance but also is engaging intelligent, fun and down right interesting to talk to. I have spoken with such a person, and she is good.
Yasmin has an air of assurity about her which could border on being over confident if it weren’t for her obvious intelligence and relative success in such a short space of time. This lady has stuff to say, anyone who has complained in the past or commented on her samey answers during interviews……… well thats probably cos they are the same questions and i’d imagine it gets pretty darn hardy boring hearing them over and over and over and over again.
With that in mind I tried to make this one a bit more interesting and hopefully get some insights into her as a human rather than how that devlin collaboration came about……….Plus my now patented Clever Scientific Psychological insight Round of questions.

Collaborators on the album include diplo, jamie xx, and shy fx that is some heavy people to work with on a first album. My question was who put them together, was it the label head hunting these people for her or of her own back?
No not at all, it was me I just got in contact with them and luckily they liked my music and wanted to work together. I’ve been a fan of Diplo for ages, it was crazy working in the studio with him, he has this creative energy to him and he is not trying to make stuff that is a no.1 mainstream hit because he doesn’t need to. He’s happy touring and djing all over the world and producing some of the best tracks around.
On Jamie XX/Working with other collaborators
Def a fan of the XX and jamie’s collaborations with Gil Scott-Heron and Adele. I was blown away, both dj to dj and as a music fan by the set he did on Benji B’s show. It was so intricate and well thought out I was in awe. I loved that he sampled old RnB records but put his own twist on them.
The collab came out really simply because I sent him some of my music and he really liked it.
I don’t think I could work with anyone in the studio where we didn’t have that kind of mutual appreciation of each others music. I remember at times it was just like spending time with my mates. sharing records and chilling out.

I think its hard to create something completely new nowdays and no-one is re-inventing music but they are taking influences and combining them to make something different. I do the same thing, I take influences from music I love and combine that with who I am to create something I’d like to think is differnt.
I think alot of these artists are REAL artists with integrity . No-one is telling them they should go out and hook up with this guy or combine this style or make this sound it is just what they love to do.
On the growth and wave of “Mainstream Dubstep”
The media hype behind some of it, i think will be it’s downfall. It used to be about dj’s sharing tracks between each other just so they could hear each others work and their newest beat or bassline they’d come up with. Now there is soo much pressure on them to make an album which will chart and sell.
