John Mayer is one of the greatest musicians currently making music. Years from now when people look back at our generation he will be our Eric Clapton. Last month Mayer released his 4th Studio album entitled Battle Studies; the album was easily one of 2009′s best. Conceived as a manifesto for the heartbroken, Mayer captures every type of heartbreak within Battle Studies’ 12 songs. My personal favorite was a song called Edge of Desire in which Mayer croons “I want you so bad I’ll go back on the things I believe, there I just said it I’m scared you’ll forget about me.” Anyone whose compromised their beliefs for a chance at love can’t help but relate.
A few weeks ago Mayer released a demo version of Edge of Desire on Twitter as a gift to his followers for helping the album debut #1 on Billboard. Listening to it today I was reminded why I first fell in love with Mayer’s music. The demo version is acoustic and raw but because of that you can immerse yourself into the track that much more. Bottom line, listen to the track below and buy Battle Studies if you haven’t already!
