A terrible tragedy struck Haiti this week when an earthquake rocked the nation to its core. Haiti was already the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere and the earthquake will only exacerbate the problem. Death tolls are climbing everyday and, according to The Pan American Health Administration, may be as high as 100,000. All of this devastation has inspired George Clooney, Wyclef Jean, and MTV Networks to team up for a benefit next Friday, January 22nd.
Tentatively titled “Hope for Haiti,” the event will have three hosts. Clooney will host a portion live from Los Angeles, while Wyclef will take the reigns of a New York component and Anderson Cooper will beam in from Haiti. All the funds raised will be split among five relief organizations: Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, Unicef and Yele Haiti Foundation. Little else is known at this time save for the fact that it will air on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT. But, I’ll be sure to keep you all updated as we get closer to Friday.
