Wednesday night FILTER Started their weekend and music festival (CULTURE COLLIDE) early by screening “Nirvana: Live at the Paramount” on the big screen at the Vista Theater in Silverlake. This was to help promote the 20th anniversary of the release of “Nevermind” and the box sets that were released with that.
It was great, all you had to do to get in was RSVP. There was complimentary popcorn and soda. The concert was great! It’s arecording of a show they did in Seattle on October, 31st 1991, which is about a month after Nevermind was released. According to Nirvana‘s website it’s “Nirvana’s only gig ever record onto 16mm film.”The screen was huge and the handheld cameras being run all over the stage gives you a sense of frenzied energy, that makes you feel like you’re up on stage with the band. The only weird part was being plopped down in seat with this huge wall of sound coming at you and not being able to move, and sitting with an audience not sure whether to clap after each song or not.
The great news is if you missed it at the Vista you can by a copy of the dvd and have your own Nirvana screening at your place where you can rock out and clap as loud as you want. Check out the special editions of Nevermind and the Live at Paramount dvd here.
Here are some videos from the dvd.
