If you’re looking for something awesome to do this weekend, something to help you escape from the real, stressful world, look no further. CINEFAMILY is having a 24 HOUR fundraiser this weekend to raise money to provide another year of great programming and events at one of the best independent/art theaters in Los Angeles. It starts today, December 17th, at 12 P.M. until 12:30 P.M. tomorrow, December 18th.
The event is broken down into six blocks of entertainment, each with separate admission, so if you, for some reason, can’t last 24-hours in a movie theater, you can still catch some dope shows at your own convenience and help support a great institution.
The OPENING (12 P.M.- 4 P.M.) starts off the event with a fucking BANG! SPIKE JONZE (Being John Malkovich, Where The Wild Things Are, Every Music Video You’ve Ever Loved) is going to be there live presenting his work from the start to the present. I’m guessing that they’ll show the ARCADE FIRE short Scenes From the Suburbs.
And, I’m Here, among everything else the dudes done.
Then, NEIL HAMBUGER,
is going to host a presentation of “Outsider Music from Jake Austen over at ROCKTOBER MAGAZINE.
Followed by a performance from by by Guy Chookoorian & Paul Zone (of The Fast)
Next, is PRIMETIME (4:15 P.M.-9 P.M) with a surprise guest Q&A,
Then, a lecture on “Film & Food” from L.A. WEEKLY’s Jonathan Gold.
SHADOE STEVENS shows his “The Best of Fred Rated & The Commercials of The Federated Group”, which was viral marketing before the interwebs,
And, Bencio Del Toro presents a screening of The Naked Island by Shindo Kaneto>
Next is MIDNIGHT MADNESS, with Doug Benson and a special guest will do a “Specially-constructed multi-movie Movie Interruption”, which is like Mystery Science Theater 3000, but by the great Doug Benson.
Then, EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE, assaults your mind with his tripped out VCR concoctions.
Followed by the Cinefamily “Mondo Christmas Special”.
The fourth block is THE NITE OWL , (1A.M.- 6A.M.), with NO AGE + Special Guest playing a show,
presents her film on black light food with samples on the back patio,
closed out by, “We Program in Public” the Cinefamily’s call in talk show.
The next block, GOOD MORNING CINEFAMILY, (6A.M.-11A.M.) has something for the hippies and the kids.
Dawn Salon is going to have “meditative morning rituals & visual”, which include live sitar.
Then, DJ LANCE ROCK, of YO GABBA GABBA, will host “an ode to wild and pioneering childrens’ programming”.
The FINALE of the fundraiser will be “A Conversation with Elliot Gould“.
After the event there will be a MEMBERS ONLY event hosted by Michael Cera, were he will present “Jim Henson: Commercials & Experiments” and lunch with food from The Foundry on Melrose.
You can catch any, or all of this by heading down to The Cinefamily, or you can watch it on the interwebs HERE, where you can find more information about the event, buy memberships, or donate.
