No one could argue Metronomy produced one of the catchiest and most listenable pop tracks of last year and whilst there has been a few remixes flying around, this is by far my favourite.

The merging of styles works especially well. A dub luv-step infused vibe from TIP, gives depth and smoothness to the electro synthed indie pop of the original. You can still download the track for free from the soundcloud player below.

Even fresher than this is the “Fireside Chat” Metronomy have just added to the Rbma Radio site. Featured are many of the bands classic tracks and even some of their more famous re-works, including tracks from Lykke Li, Franz Ferdinand and Air. Check that out in the player below.

When we interviewed FELIX CARTAL a few weeks ago, he mentioned that the second single off his upcoming album, “Different Faces”, would be “Domo”. Well, the day has come, it was released today.

The song builds up with a nice melody and beat, and you think it’s going to sound a lot like, “Don’t Turn On The Lights”, but then it goes into a completely different direction.

I’m looking forward to the remixes, seems like there is a lot you could do with this song.

Cartal has one more single due out at the beginning of March, and then “Different Faces” comes out March 27, on DIM MAK.

Shoe Scene Symphony has landed! Who are these guys and where on earth did they come from?! Not much is known about these two as a duo (just yet.) But Franz “DJ Antidote” Salvador & Andy “DeeJay Bandoma” are two  fellas out of Orange County, Southern California who are no strangers to the local DJ community. Both have been in the DJ game for well over 10 years. Both have seen the spotlight in the passed as they are very skilled DMC battle turntablists turn EDM producers. Yes my friends these two can do some serious damage on the ones and two’s – AND now continuing the demolition with their new rhythmic venture; Shoe Scene Symphony. Enjoy!

These kindly gents are being touted as the UK’s answer to The Wknd. Personally, not a big fan of comparisons like that but you can quite obviously hear the similarities. Although Seasfire seems to parade on the more “indie” side of the fence rather than RnB or soul. That being said there is such a depth to their music one genre doesn’t really seem to do them justice, and judging by their older tracks on their soundcloud, they don’t like to stick to one sound either.

The video below is for upcoming single “Falling” set for release Feb 27th. The guys are still pretty young in the grand scheme of things. A mere 566 fans on Facebook and barely a properly tagged video on Youtube. Get in early on this one and make sure you score “I was a fan before they were big” bragging rights.

The dark and shady figure known only to a few as A.Chal is back again with another stunning set of visuals and a dark deep bass heavy mix of his distinct stylised tunes.

The press release I received is a stroke of genius and is basically a tweet, sent out by A.Chal, which gives a short quote about the mix and what it means to him.

If this mix is anything to go on, we can see A.Chal doing some pretty big things in the future.

First up is from the talented young frenchman Pyramid, which blesses us with a breezed transition of vocals with a electronic bounce, with foxes keeping the vocals solid, the two seemed to compliment the other in a dazzling remix for early 2012. Keep a ear out for this young gun, word on the street is that his name will be in the mix with icons such as Daft Punk, Justice and many more.

To push over in more of a serious type of baseline, the Montreal duo Adventure Club amazes ear drums with some dub step translation of what Foxes vocals can really do, keeping the flow going, they keep the remix smooth by letting the vocals do what they do and complimenting when needed. Expect big thing from all of these artist, as there music and renditions have made for some great creative music.

First, we have the new FEIST video, “The Bad In Each Other”, off of her latest album, Metals. At first, I thought it was a trailer for an Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amorres Perros, Babel) film.  I was wrong. It was directed by Martin De Thurah, who’s done videos for James Blake and Royksopp, in the past.

Feist wrote on her blog, “You could think about the video like a song or a poem, and different people will connect to different things- and those connections might be different from time to time when they watch it.”

Next, “Montreal” from THE WEEKND‘s third Mixtape, Echoes of Silence. This video was created by the HIGHFIVECOLLECTIVE, who have been cranking out dope music videos all year. They’ve done videos for Kanye & Jay-Z, Frank Ocean and Amy Winehouse. In this one, they take you inside a creepy, domestic situation.

Finally, we have another, tripped out, video from DIE ANTWOORD. “I Finky U Freeky”, the second single off, Ten$ion, was directed by NINJA and Roger Ballen, a famous South African Photographer. You can see Ballen’s influence through his photographs.

Being from the sunny and ever so friendly shores of the United Kingdom we do pretty well musically. Rock n Roll, dubstep (obviously), garage, pop, folk etc etc. We can plant a flag in the sand and say, at least, some of the biggest artists in the world within their respective genres started here. One musical facet we have never quite mastered though is Hip-Hop. Maybe it is so engrained in US culture that the UK product doesn’t translate. Only recently has some of our hip-hop talent started to make their way slowly across the pond and infiltrate the wider market.

That being said I’m am sad to have missed out on this apparently very essential part of hip hop culture. I’m pretty lost for words so I will leave it up to the professionals to let you know what this is all about

The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show is the best hip hop radio show of all time, period. Broadcasting out of Columbia University’s WKCR every Thursday night from 1am to 5am between 1990 and 1998, Adrian “Stretch Armstrong” Bartos and Robert “Bobbito” Garcia launched the career of countless MC’s from the East coast, including Nas, The Notorious B.I.G, Big Pun, and Busta Rhymes to name but a few. With their witty commentary, razor-sharp mixing skills and obsessive passion for unearthing the next freshest beat and rhyme in the universe, they had fans around the world on lock and inspired generations of radio hosts to come. Big L and Jay-Z freestyling back to back? Check. Dubplates cut from demo tapes at Sugar Minott’s Brooklyn studio? Check. Legendary on-air phone calls with aspiring rappers? Check. The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show was more than a radio show. It was the epitome of 90s New York rap, the backbone of an industry (without ever being part of the industry), and still ranks as one of the greatest documents of that era. Both Stretch and Bob have long gone on to engage in other ventures, running labels, making movies and of course DJing solo around the globe. In January 2012 though, they reunited for a lecture and DJ set during the Red Bull Music Academy Session in San Francisco. Hear them tear the Mighty SF apart with an impeccable selection of tunes that inspired their show back in the 90s, as well as legendary Bay Area DJ, Shortkut of Invisbl Skratch Piklz and Beat Junkies fame, warming up and paying homage to his contemporaries from the East Coast. Break Science are back in a big old way. They are releasing their new EP Monolith Code today (january 31st) on Pretty Lights Music and to celebrate are giving away a free download of track “Victory”.

The EP is host to the distinct sounds that we have come to expect from the Pretty Lights camp, pushing out something that is a hybrid of hip-hop, soul, electronic, dubstep, dub, breaks and alt rock. The Break Science guys say they have created the EP using half automated digital sounds and the other half using a live element. For me the live element is the stand out aspect of the EP. With raging alt-rock guitar lines steaming through and such a dense layered production you can listen to the EPover and over again and still find something new.

How long have we been asking for a  Jack White solo project? Pretty damn long if you ask me! Well today my friends he brings us, “Love Interruption” the first single of his debut album, Blunderbuss, out April 24th on Third Man Records/Columbia.

“Love Interruption” is an amazing slow, guitar strum track on some The Black Keys riffs and some of his previous work under The White Stripes. Short, sweet and a good taste of what’s to come 2012. Enjoy!

Here’s a bit of dubstep news that doesn’t annoy me, in fact I’m really stoked to get my hands on this here – a perfect music collaboration (in my humble opinion). The Skints seem to have some rolling thunder at their backs as currently every time I go online I am met with something new. The more I have an artists shoved in my face the more I’m inclined to shun said artist, ignore every single person who wills wear blindly that this IS their best track ever and they ARE the most influential producer or singer to come out in the past 10 years.

The Skints seem to be the exception to that rule. They strike a very sincere vibe both with their video and their sound, you can almost smell the cleanliness and purity that comes with not being attached to an enormous fad churning label, with the sole intention of getting their buck back and finding ways to make young teens part with their cash.

The single “Ratatat” is slated for release February 27th. Check the video belowwww.

A few days ago, Derek Vincent Smith, A.K.A. PRETTY LIGHTS, came out with a new song and music video called,”We Must Go On”. You might remember him from working on the RE:Generation Music Project, where he teamed up with LeAnn Rimes & Dr. Ralph Stanley, or when he remixed one of John Denver’s songs.

There’s no Country sound in “We Must Go On”, it’s a hip-hop song with soulful guitar licks, yazz flutes and vocal samples that float in and out perfectly. The video was filmed and edited by Smith, and his girlfriend, Krystle Blackburn. It captures the grind of living in a city, with images of tired, beat down city dwellers juxtaposed with images of children, flowers and ends with a shot of the sun coming out of the clouds. The good cinematography and clever editing make for a great visual piece to go with the audio. I hope those two keep collaborating for future videos.

Growing up as a Hip-Hop head in Southern California during the 1990′s it was impossible to not know who the Beat Junkies were. If you turned on the radio more often than not, there was a member of the Beat Junkies behind the decks. The Junkies were not only on the radio but are also members of such West Coast underground rap groups like Dilated Peoples and Visionaries. This year marks 20 years of the Beat Junkie sound system invading everyone’s ears, and I hope that we have 20 more years to come!

As we can all clearly see through the amount of internet circulation he’s been getting, masked London bass-pop producer SBTRKT had a gnarly 2011. Like all artists – gem upon gem of unreleased material usually see’s the light of day once they hit it big! We got one right here ladies and mates, the never-released 2009 track “Atomic Peace,” which SBTRKT recently posted to his Soundcloud. A couple of days ago, I sat down with DIM MAK‘s, FELIX CARTAL, at the Dim Mak offices in Hollywood. We talked about the music video for his new single, “Don’t Turn On the Lights”, music and what he has in store for the future.

After circling the block, I finally figured out which building I was supposed to be looking for. As I’m getting out of the car Felix and his Manager pull up behind us, coming back form a food run. We greet each other and they open the door into the Dim Mak offices.

The place is an office/warehouse, with merch all over the place and a handful of employees working away on their laptops. I was lead a rainbow-colored staircase, the steps weren’t painted with a rainbow pattern, each step was painted a different color, to a loft with a some couches, a nice desk and a few more employees with laptops.

I played with one of guy’s dog, while Felix had his first experience with a Tommy’s burger, and all it’s chili-cheese glory.

Sadly I was disappointed to discover that Lana Del Rey‘s performance on Saturday Night Live last week was short of a train wreck, I saw that ish for myself and it was weeeell, not pretty. Nonetheless, I’m still stoked for her album to drop Jan.30th and continue to search the interwebs for some really bitchen remixes of her music. With such a unique style, it’s really hard to come across quality remakes but once in awhile something radical falls on your lap!

The radical remix findings today come in the form of Drum & Bass from Marcus Intalex.  Marcus Intalex‘s “Born to Die” remix for example, its relatively simple formula of warm, dark basslines and moody synths that compliment Del Rey’s dreary theatrical voice perfectly.

Dubstep. It’s turning into a dirtier work every time someone talks about it, and that seems to happen ALOT. Being lucky enough to live in London, I’d like to think we get the “unfiltered” version of the sound that still holds it roots in deep bass and not so many wobbles.

When people do talk Dubstep the conversations always seem to run the same route. Expect to hear, in a self righteous tone, “It isn’t what it used to be…..”, “Dubstep is dead….., “I heard dubstep on MTV today, mainstream has ruined it……” blah blah blah. Though some of this is undoubtedly true, and Dubstep has become massive, getting regular mainstream airplay through several of its leading heads. It seems a little narrow minded and lazy to say that the entire genre is dead. It doesn’t take alot of searching to find the guys that are still making the tunes that lay house to the original sound and have resisted the temptation to make crowd pleasing wobblers.

With that in mind we would like to introduce Hatcha and his Headphone Highlights. Within this playlists is a treasure chest of Big Apples earliest records, some unreleased, some extremely early tracks from the infamous Skream and Benga. I can guarantee there is at least one track in here you have never heard before. A very very good education in the way it all began.

“It’s fair to say that Hatcha’s name is as axe-sharp as his dubplate skills and few DJs have had as much influence on the course of dubstep as Croydon’s own. An original FWD>> resident, Hatcha shaped early dubstep by cutting exclusive dubs from Skream, Benga and Digital Mystikz, and also helped name the genre by describing Benny Ill’s dubby 2-step records as “dubstep”. Starting out at Big Apple Records, and mixing the first ‘Dubstep Allstars’ comp on Tempa, he is now building his own ’100% Pure Dubstep’ compilations, hosting a regular show on London’s Kiss FM, and running the Sin City night and label. The sound of London’s bass music scene wouldn’t be the same without him!”

Yasiin recently released his take on Kanye and Jay-Z’s anthemic “N***s in Paris,” with “Niggas in Poorest.”

Probably the UK’s premier beatboxer, Beardyman was not content with this one simple accolade as we saw with his recent album, entitled “I Did A Album”, during which we see his production skills at the forefront, along with various acoustic sets, dotted around youtube, when he takes the opportunity to show off his very decent set of pipes and screaming skills.

A month or so back we saw a collaboration between Beardyman and the UK Hip Hop outfit Foreign Beggars, which is set to be the second single taken from Beardyman’s album. The track featured equal parts bangra, bass, and hip hop beats all served up with a juicy helping of witty and sharp lyrics. Notably the majority of the track was created using Beardyman’s voice and beatboxing skills, which were then skewered and twisted into the sounds you hear on the record.

Not satisfied,  the trio then drafted in Benji Boko on remixing duty and decided that the track would be offered as a gift to all dedicated and loyal fans! Very nice of these kind gentlemen indeed.

I do love the Scandinavians. Despite living a relatively sparse life often surrounded by nothing but the cold snow and hard ice they make the most of it by partying very very hard. On the more musical side of things they are responsible for some of the best electronic pop sounds to have come out for many many years.

They seem to translate their lifestyle into their music, which is often why and how their sounds stands out so much. Torgny is one of the best examples of this. Dubbed as “Norways Best New Electronic Export” I don’t think many people would argue with the moniker.

Torgny is set to release the Trilogy EP January 23rd, which includes 3 original tracks in addition to a 3 remixes. The EP began life as a trio of videos who’s goal was to document young peoples lives in comtemporary Scandinavia. All three were directed by Emil Trier and feature the stunning vocals of Maria Due. The video’s coming highly recommended not only for the music but also the directing and cinematography. We are assured that no actors are used and everything that happens in as it should be.

The wait is finally over! After many fake and funny lineups, the real one has finally be released! Boy does it not disappoint either. For the first time one of the world’s largest music festivals will take place over two star-studded weekends. Every year this festival gets bigger and bigger, and they always find some way to top the previous year. This year looks to be no different, April 13-15 and 20-22 looked to be two of the best weekends of the year already.

Yes THAT Frankie Knuckles. The very same one who did “Your Love” way back in 1987 which has since been remixed or sampled at least 7 or 8 times, most recently getting a refix from Florence and The Machine. One of my favorite artists from 2011 SBTRKT recently dropped a new join titled Ride To Freedom for mass consumption. Looks like this will be the b-side to the single Hold On. The song has a completely different feel than Hold On but still retains that distinctive SBTRKT funkiness that all of his fans have come to love.

The RE:GENERATION project has become one of the most interesting collection of collaborations of the year. With all of the videos and music finally being released Hyuandai sat the performers together for a little chat. Engine Earz Experiment were a 4 piece band that had been cranking out some of the filthiest live dubstep to come out of, well anywhere, for some time. Not to be left behind on the cramming stakes, they have recently toured the UK supporting Dj Shadow, remixed one of his tracks, and came runner up at the Dubstep Awards for Best Live Out, only being pitted to the no.1 spot by Magnetic Man.

This quartet has now become a quintet. A permanent 5th member has joined the ranks in the form of a lead female vocalist. She will be laying down dark and mysterious notes to accompany what is already a very very filthy style of dubstep.

To celebrate the group are giving away a track ‘Battle Scars‘ in addition to their first live studio mix. Recorded for Mistajam on Radio 1xtra the ‘Occupy The Mix‘ session is not to be missed if you  like your music down right gritty, an aura of mystery and nmany many drops.

They were nice enough to put out a mini-mix so you can get a sampling of the different remixes.

The video for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”, with the YEAH YEAH YEAH’s Karen O on vocals, off of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Soundtrack was released a few days ago on Pitchfork.

The video was apparently put together by director, David Fincher, using clips from the opening sequence of the film. It looks like the result of bad video camera bootlegging at a preview screening, with images of wires, claws, fingers and feathers are almost all in a disorienting tight zoom, but it does a great job as a teaser for the film that comes out on December, 21st.

This is the first song from the 3 hour-long soundtrack that’s available for digital download directly from Reznor’s record company, NULL, or Itunes. The score also features the HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS cover of the Bryan Ferry song, “Is Your Love Strong Enough?”

Katy B – On A Mission was pretty much the soundtrack of summer a year or so back. It literally got played at every party I attended. Now I thought I would be bored of it by now, that is until The Skints came along and flipped it 360 with a smooth and silky dub, reggae twist.

The Skints refer to themselves at “East London Reggae” which is apt as none of them are what you might typically associate with reggae music. They do, however, have a pretty east London look and a definite east London twang to their sound which fuses reggae, dub, ska, and punk with a modern twist. Imagine the second coming of Madness or The Specials but more urban and cooler.

The video was premiered yesterday afternoon and basically smashed it. It hit 10,00 views within a day and got Skream, Benga and Katy B, herself dropping support behind it and sharing over their social channels. Not bad work for a day.

This just goes to prove once again that when you are as prolific as Skream you can pretty much do whatever you like. We saw a strikingly and surprisingly good disco set over the summer, a techno tune dropped over his soundcloud and a few weeks back an old school set in london with nothing but banger on banger from 96-99.

I guess this could maybe be dubbed as a Techno set, although Skream seems insistent on baffling everyone all the time so do not take my word for it.

ITHACA AUDIO is a “music composition and sound design company” in the UK, mostly working on commercials and with filmmakers, but for the last six months they’ve also been putting out a few live mash-ups on their site. The mixes pull from everything, including film soundtracks and dance music, to create something that sounds like a mixture of GIRL TALK and POGO(who was just banned from the U.S. for ten years. WTF?). Like Pogo, they also add the VJ element by using Arkaos GrandVJ so you can see the music clips being mashed together visually. Check them out!

The latest is an 11 video mashup, with clips from Inception, The Beastie Boys & Jimi Hendrix.

Two of the godfather’s of dubstep dropped a new EP for Scion today for free! Skream and Benga’s involvement in the dubstep scene can be traced almost all the way back to the genre’s inception. Everytime they come together its something bass heads will surely be appreciating for the next few months. Racking 5 Grammy nominations including “Best New Artist“, which will have him going up against artists from the likes of The Band Perry, Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj, and  J. Cole. So what does this mean? KORN with their Metalstep and now an EDM artist hitting the big one? Is Dubstep going mainstream? I personally don’t think it will make any serious waves, I think it’s the music industry’s way of showing appreciation for an extremly hard working talent who is dropping remix after remix/original after original. His bloody video got 50million views on YouTube! Ball so hard Skrilly!

The title track off of Drake’s new album has begun to spread to top-40 radio across the country but what most listeners do not know is that the track was produced by one of brightest in the game, Jamie XX. Blending music is all the rage at the minute. Skrillex collaborating with whats left of The Doors, Pretty Lights with Lean Rimes/ a country artist of some name, and Korn with any Dubstep guy they can get their grubby hands on. The results have all been pretty positive.

However may I direct your attention to the screen below. After pressing play a video will start. The scene is in a pod, on the London Eye (an enormous wheel with views etc, which travels in a circle). Within the pod is a string quartet, a composer with a scarf, Benji B, an MC, about a 20 person crowd, a stack of free booze and an hour of bass music like you have never heard before.

DnB has never really been famed for making poignant videos that have a deeper meaning than ” you should all rave and skank till the world ends….when this track plays”. Not to take anything away from the videos themselves, I guess the style of music, speed, tempo doesn’t really lend itself to a higher purpose or deep message.

Phace and Misanthrop disagree. First of all the track alone is sickening. A Noisia-esque style that see’s dark basslines and changing tempos blended together over a rolling but harrowing beat, I dont imagine too many people will get their smiley skank on to this one. Cue heavy moshpits and pouty faces.

Combine that with the video, which is cut and edited perfectly to fit the songs timing. On top, the message it conveys is sincere and clear despite missing a vocalist to translate the songs meaning. Check below and make up your own mind.

Arguably the least known but most experienced and hardy of the Magnetic Man crew. Artwork has been on the scene for a long time. He put out Benga’s first ever record way back in 2002, on his Big Apple Records im-print and shop and employed both Skream and Benga to work for him. Amongst the industries big names, Artwork is nothing short of a legend and we can quite safely lay the birth of Dubstep, as it was, sqaurely at his door. Sooooo thanks very much!

The lecture went down at Rbma 2011 in Madrid. Famed for giving informative, well conducted and intimate lecture/interviews with some of the biggest and most respected names in music, this one is no different.

The video is a long piece but if you have any interest in the origins of the dubstep scene, Skreams drinking habits, or how Artwork got where he is now then definitely worth a watch.

It’s pretty rare that I get excited by pop music. However, it seems that we as a generation are enjoying a massive shift in the term “pop” and what that means to many artists. Personally I’m all for it, the more broad the term gets the more the possibility arises we may see an end to mindless pop drivel that is created as a product rather than an artistic endeavour.

With that in mind I approached the latest “pop – insert new and hip genre defining term here” offering with some caution, pretty much prepped and ready to be unimpressed and whizz through the soundcloud player only to be left empty and unfulfilled. The track it seemed had other ideas.

The WooWoos are a three piece girl group, currently recording their debut album in New York. Siting influences ranging from percussive jazz, reggae, and contemporary “noir” protagonists (not entirely sure who “they” are but I reckon they are quite good). The track Fizzy Lettuce is a dark and brooding affair that boasts a deep but sparse bassline, layers of distortion and a sassy feel that give it a a feel similar to that of The Weeknd.

The endearingly insane pair of Phra and Bot are back once again. This time offering up a new Ep and a free download of a live set they performed at I Love Techno this past weekend.

Hummus, referencing the delicious dip that goes ever so well with sliced carrots or celery, is said to be….

The release features 5 remixes, including Donovan, The Slow Waves, Botnek, Astronomar, and Hybrid Theory plus a free download from Maribou State. All in all a pretty darn good offering. The Ep features enough diversity to keep most people happy. Highlight for me is no doubt The Slow Waves mix, which is everything a remix should be. The mood of the track is completely distorted and taken in a much slower more chilled direction, whilst creating an ambience lacking in the original.

Crookers also layed down a monsterous set at I Love Techno over the weekend. Having just about finished listening to the whole 2 hours I can safely draw breath and sit back down because this was an absolute killer cycle. A perfectly fused mix of hip hop and house, with interludes being made for Forget About Dre and some stinky Daft Punk on the fly mixing.  Check the stream below.

In music there are some undeniable combinations, and whenever Nasir Jones and Preemo get together it is almost guaranteed to be magic. Thanks to the RE-GENERATION project by Hyundai these two Hip-Hop juggernauts are coming together once again. Premier’s legendary production with the assistance of the Berkless Symphany Orchestra along with the lyrical prowess of Nas make for not only an interesting listen but an awesome video as well.

Radiohead has always been highly regarded as one of the most influential groups of the better part of the last two decades. Their cutting edge sound as well as their unwillingness to conform to the normal sales model has been an inspiration to the ever growing indie label community. With their last project they enlisted some of the hottest producers to remix their tracks. Earlier this year Jamie XX got to share his take on Bloom which received mixed reviews. Jamie is back with a second take on Bloom and I must say I for one enjoy this version better. Take a listen to the Jamie’s new version as well as a few other remixes.

By far my favourite Dj/producer on the planet right now. Pretty Lights is sizzling right now. After he took part in the Re:Generation project, along with Skrillex and Mark Ronson, where we saw him throw down with some old school country legends. He now returns with EA Games in tow. The track is made to celebrate, and presumably, be a part of of the upcoming SSX release in February.

Pretty lights puts his swing on the undeniable classic It’s Tricky by Run DMC. Check the video below.

Known for his harder hitting Moombahton, the remix of Circles shows that Dillon’s sound is not confined to one genre. I for one cannot wait to hear what Dillon has to offer in 2012 and beyond!

Any of my inner circle can tell you that I’m not the biggest dub step connoisseur in the business. I do know when I listen to something special in that department though…  Varien, where the hell did you come from?! Are you human? Super legit!

Varien’s new bass heavy creation entitled “Cloak and Dagger” is exactly what I want to hear entering some sort of ring. Stepping onto the playing field of any sport. Gearing for a 40 days and 40 nights of war in some far off land! Hahaha, woa sorry, you get the point… These tracks are enormous, please adjust your speaker systems… Enjoy the ride!

Upon hearing Deadmau5 had covered a Radiohead track I felt both intrigued and a little bewildered at how he could have done it. Does he sing now? Did he get a guest vocalist? Has he taken the next logical step for any Dj and spliced himself with a octopus and played all the instruments live?

Well pretty much none of those things are true. He covered the first few minutes of “Codex” using zero samples. The cover doesn’t add or take away anything from the original but does give it a cleaner more electronic feel.

Stream and make up your own mind below. The only real criticism I could level at it, is the song seems to finish very abruptly.

It’s been 7 days and I have only just seen this new Luvstep!! What an idiot!  More accurately this isn’t quite Luvstep 3. It is however Luvstep 2.5, taken from a live recording at Mad Decents Block Party.

This round see’s a similar sound and feel to the previous mixes with Dirty South and Joe Flufftronix taking the cream of the deeper and sexier dubstep and bass world, however where the previous mixes were emotive and very focused on vocal productions, the pair come a bit harder this time.

This year, on 11/11/11, at the CENTER FOR THE ARTS EAGLE ROCK, it’s going to be 11 DJs, $11, and according to the facebook event page, “1100 of PB Wolfs favorite personal records will be brought to the event via U-Haul. DJs will perform unplanned sets from his record collection. There will be no announcements made on DJs or set times.”

I don’t know if it means anything but GASLAMP KILLER and RHETTMATIC, from the Beat Junkies, tweeted about this earlier today. Just felt like starting rumors.

So I guess it’s clear to say that Dubstep is the new Black?

The Material Girl has found a way to reinvent herself and stay relevant for almost 3 decades now and she has no signs of stopping. Her new single Give Me All Your Love leaked out yesterday and of course we have it here for you! The track has a elements that are reminiscent of her 80′s roots as well as updated elements that fit today’s in your face sound.

If you’re an American and the DJ Hi-Tek part of the song offended you. Ninja has four points he would like to make in Die Antwoord’s defense.

According to boingboing.net, Die Antwoord severed their ties with Interscope Records when the label wanted to “rework” their sound after hearing the new album,Ten$ion, which will now be released, independently, in January. You have to respect them for choosing creative control over loads of cash.

It’s also worth checking out the short film by Die Antwoord and Harmony Korine (Kids, Gummo), that premiered at SXSW, Umshini Wam (Bring Me My Machine Gun).

Since first bursting onto the scene a few years ago Scott Mescudi has been banging out songs that blur the notion of genres and have gained him quite a following. While Man On The Moon 2 was not the commercial success that a record executive would be particularly proud of it still held its own against many of the releases of last year. To Da Top gives us a glimpse into the mind  of a young Cudi before his unique sound was fully developed.

Straight up bass monster today, courtesy of the Black Butter Records camp.  The man in question is British bass bohemoth RackNRuin. He teams up with P Money, who right now is easily the hottest mc on the planet……..so a good choice & Koast who is making rumblings of his own.

We have two tracks of the Ep for your streaming pleasure today. The first is the original mix which features some dark, dark, dark rolling bass that sits perfectly underneath P money rhymes and flow which is infectious and will have ones head wobbling from side to side. Track keeps a definite UK bass flavour and hints of old school garage at times.

The second is the Torqux and Twist mix, which is heavy heavy wobbles. This leans more towards the high frequency Flux Pavillion “Bro step” style. You can almost guarantee your ears will be blow to bits throughout club land to these ones sometime very soon.

Take Care drops tomorrow but Drake made his radio rounds over this past week and dropped a new track with his fellow Toronto native The Weeknd called “Crew Love”.  The production on the track has The Weeknd’s fingerprints all over it, both aggressive and haunting at the same time.

On the heels of the soon to be classic Big Bad Wolf music video Dada Life release their remix to what was already a banger. Dada does what they do best and turn the energy of the track up with a fat dose of electro goodness. If you were unsure about dropping the original version in your set, this might just be the answer.

Two years ago there is a good chance that if you told someone that you listened to Moombahton they would have no idea what you were talking about. One of the first Moombahton songs to catch my attention was Munchi’s banger Este Noche. Munchi has consistently been able to blend my favorite parts of multiple genres into tracks that kill the dancefloor time and time again. This mini-doc gives a nice peek into Munchi’s origins and his thoughts on the Moombahton movement.

Music is changing, that much we know. Genres aren’t really genres, but they are, new ones spring up every day. Sounds are blended. “Live” music is now done on a computer, The Doors are collaborating with Skrillex and Pretty Lights is doing a track with Lean Rimes.

Honestly I have no clue where this is all leading, however we can safely say that there will always be a place for the singer songwriters of this murky and abashed industry. Not to be left behind these same singer songwriters are embracing the electronic movement and incorporating the methods and new bits of techy tech into thier live shows.

With that in mind I would like to introduce y’all to Fiordmass. Actually made up of a pair, the singers sounds a bit like Bjork, but darker. Kind of a female James Blake when it comes to production but with alot more anxst in her vocals…….and alot better than shakey Blake.

Petra Hermanova is one of the participants at this year Red Bull Music Academy so with any luck we should be hearing more from this duo soon.

Jhené Aiko surprised me earlier this year with her album .sailing soul(s). and how unique it sounded. Jhené is back with her first single In Love We Trust off her upcoming project entitled Souled Out. This track brings some soulful vocals over classic 90′s boom-bap driven beats which takes me back to one of my favorite eras in music.

When Amy WInehouse released Back To Black a few years ago, it was a breath of fresh air for the pop music charts. From then until her timely passing Amy’s life was a mix of tragedy with glimmers of her musical brilliance. While she looked like she was on her way back to performing and recording again her life was cut short. Like Smoke is a morbid reminder of how great Amy was and could have continued to be.

A couple of days ago, Berlin’s MODESELEKTOR posted the video for, “Shipwreck, one of the two, songs they wrote with THOM YORKE, (“This” is the other track.) off of their latest album, Monkeytown. In the video we see a young boy trying to survive in a Post-apocalyptic/zombie infested landscape. TONY T. DATIS directed the video, who recently directed the videos for the SKRILLEX song, “First of the Year (Equinox)”, and the NOISIA track, “Shellshock”. I’m definitely sensing a theme throughout Datis’ work. What do you guys think of the videos?
