The mysterious Australian duo,FLIGHT FACILITIES released their newest single, “With You” feat. Grovesnor, with a Daft Punk/Megaman inspired animated video.

“With You” continues to explore the bitter side of love and relationships found in their last two singles, “Foreign Language” and “Crave You.” Pair that with infectious dance grooves and you have a lot of dancing and crying in your dark room while smoking cigarettes at four in the morning.

The video is reminiscent of DAFT PUNK’s Interstella 5555 and MSTRKRFT’s “Work on You” video.(which is not that easy to find on the internet for some reason.) The It was animated by Benjamin Drake, who also animated the live visuals for GOTYE‘s song, “Easy Way Out.”

Flight Facilities also remixes of “With You” from MAM, Danny Daze and David August.

Speaking of remixes Flight Facilities just posted that they started working on a remix of the MIIKE SNOW song, “The Wave,” so we’re looking forward to that release.

For years Usher’s tracks have been making babies and breaking hearts, his newest single “Climax” has to be one of my favorite tracks of the year. It has sparked a treasure chest full of some the smoothest remixes from producers from the likes of Keys ‘N Krates, Flosstradamus and Volomo. It’s been over a year since CUT COPY released their third album, “Zonoscopes,” and are apparently already working on their fourth. If you’re having withdrawals from lack Aussie electro-pop, look no further.

Director Ryan Patrick, who also has a pretty sick blog about filmmaking gear called Halfsilk, posted the a new video for the song “Take Me Over” on his vimeo page. It’s your classic story of a girl who gets bullied, and how she over comes her tormentors. In typical fashion, she does what every victim of bullying does, creates a badass cardboard mech suit and power punches the bitches into the sky. (P.S. Really dig when the pixelated digital-noise effect is used as a transition.)

If that wasn’t enough Cut Copy for you, the bands bassist Ben Browning has just released a solo EP, titled “Lover Motion.”

Browning had help from his fellow band member Dan Whitford, with some keyboard production type stuff, and also from some Architecture in Helsinki folk.

The entire EP is streaming on the CUTTER RECORDS soundcloud page.

There is also a very serious, and artsy video for “I Can’t Stay,” that reminds one of 60′s French Films and 90′s Chris Isaak music videos.

You can catch him live TONIGHT! at the El Rey, in Los Angeles, with METRONOMY, or tomorrow at Central in Santa Monica.

The remix of “I Can’t Stay” from JUAN MACLEAN and KNIGHTLIFE are also worth checking out.

In a time when Hip-Hop on the radio is lather, rinse, repeat it’s always good to hear something refreshing. Where She Go pulls influences from Indie-rock while keeping an undeniable Hip-Hop feel. The haunting chorus is contrasted by Name’s energetic delivery and deep lyrical content. After giving Where She Go a few listens I am excited to hear the rest of his upcoming project The Epiphany EP.

The fact that the RZA’s name was attached to this song/video was what really grabbed my attention, and I’m sorry if that’s what grabbed yours, because, sadly, he’s not in the video and barely in the song. However, the Rzarector did remix PORTUGAL. THE MAN‘s “All Your Light (Times Like These)”, and a portion of the remix can be heard in the video along with the classic Bobby Digital call (I don’t know how to spell that sound. dododododo?)

On the plus side, this song and the video are ridiculously amazing. The visuals are a cross between the the X-Files, Se7en and Resident Evil, with an Inland Empire/ Salton Sea backdrop. If the locations look familiar, you are from Palmdale, Calif. (That’s where it was shot.)

The song has a bluesy, gospel-vibe, with John Gourley’s high-pitched vocals cutting to the front. There is also a small pice of the Abbott’s remix in the video version of the song, followed by some intense freaked out drums and guitar during the climax of the video.

Watch it.

To be honest, never saw it going there.

The video was directed by Dan Brown, who won a few Emmy’s for televsion stuff, like “House” and other things.

G-Shock, staying true and consistent to regular watch releases has come back once again in May 2012 with the release of the  G-7900RF-1JF ‘Rastafarian’. Now this piece is so legit and will be a must for me and for many individuals like myself that are avid fans of the “Rasta Movement“. Keeping the needs  of search and rescue teams in mind when developing the watch, it’s design is built tough to handle any session thrown your way.  Shock resistant, water resistant and low temperature resistant it takes a little more to break this piece of hardware down. Keep yo eyes on the prize with this one cause I’m sure they will sell out fast!

New music from the Mau5, well not exactly new but some solid rework to one of his classics; Closer. Deadmau5 has given us his second rendition of the tune  titled “Closer Rev. 2″. Keeping to the original with synths  from Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounter Of The Third Kind (minus the vocal sample), but beefing it up with some solid progressive house bass that turns it into a track worth adding to your set. This would be a gnarly intro during a Live Deadmau5 performance. Just saying!

The new video for The Rapture’s, “How deep Is You Love,” brings new life to this feel-good song. The video follows church goers getting ready for a day of praise in their church, while a mini Luke Jenner dances in the hands, and on the shoulders of the woman getting ready.

The video gives the song a hymn vibe. It was probably always in the song but I never noticed it until I saw all those crazy hats and ladies glowing with divinity.

What’d you think? I dug the video, but a lot of people on YouTube commmented that they “didn’t get it” or just hated it. You think they’re right or is it just a case of the internet hating on everything?

Low End Theory has built a history of being one of the best weekly events in Los Angeles. A few hours before the doors were set to open the addition of a “secret guest” was posted on the Low End Theory Facebook and the comments went wild! Even the rain couldn’t stop the Low End fans from coming to figure out who the secret guest would be. As Daddy Kev was dropping his opening set Nocando hopped on the mic and announced that the secret guest would be none other than Flying Lotus. The crowd went nuts and by the time FlyLo was about to hop on stage The Airliner was packed wall to wall. Check out the footage I shot of him dropping some new music off his upcoming album below:

Talk about chills, goosebumps, and all smiles as soon as I got word that Kaskade had put out his Live Set from this years Coachella Music and Arts Festival Weekend 2. I was in another world for this entire set that night – “Happy Place x 100!”

It’s Kaskade vs Everyone in the EDM World during this set! Probably one of the most memorable Coachella sets in the history of the festival in my opinion. Fuck what you heard about mainstream house music – KASKADE IS MASSIVE!

The music video for SÉBASTIAN TELLIER’s first single, “COCHON VILLE” (pig city), off of his forthcoming album, MY GOD IS BLUE, feels like a futuristic Caligula scene with Tellier as the grand wizard approving the madness around him.

The video starts out with a zoom-in of a creepy looking Tellier wearing thick eyeliner and a blue rob. For the next 20 seconds it seems like your normal, nu-disco, french-dance video, except for the dudes in the black Ku Klux Klan costumes.

Then the clothes start flying off, and now it just seems like another normal, nu-disco, french-dance video with some boobs in it. Very nice.

About 40 seconds later, the video starts to get strange.(The naked dude kissing a dog). No sense in spoiling what happens, just watch. (Look out for Tellier’s hilariously creepy nod of approval.)

You either loved it, or you hated it. Either way, you did just see that one guy’s balls from behind.

You guessed it, MY GOD IS BLUE is a “nouveau-prophet-leading-cult concept” album. Check out Tellier’s recruitment video.

“His return is more a descent from Mount Sinia than a breathless reemergence from the back-room, as his presence has ascended to a plane removed from corporeal pleasure,” according to his press release. “With “My God is Blue” Sébastien seeks to unify his ‘followers’ (fans) under the blanket of his message; love.”

Amazing.

“Don’t listen to my album; listen to my message,” he tells us. “Enter into vibration with my music. Let’s merge our dreams, together spreading this communal energy in an immense blue wave that will wash over the world—and the truth will emerge.”

Weather or not you think it’s all a schtick to sell records, or like Tellier, truly feels this album is “the first stone of a much larger construction, a construction whose ambition is nothing less than a radical change in our relationship to the world and other beings,” either way you know the music is going to be insanely good and occupy your earspace for months.

Disappointingly it is but a mere radio edit at the minute, however anyone with a pair of ears can understand why it is already being dubbed the tune of the summer. Vibes are big and the energy massive, throughout the track plus it is great to hear Dizzee back putting vocals down on something a little heavier than some of his more recent stuff.

Dizzee Rascal has also taken the coveted headlining spot at Snowbombing this year, which is in full swing right now. If like myself you missed out on tickets, or couldn’t make the epic journey there will be videos on the way showing us all what we missed out on. In the meantime check this playlist featuring some of the artists headlining the bonanza – HERE

The track is set to drop June 6th on Ministry of Sound Records.

The man who Skrillex said was the reason he got into making electronic music, which subsequently lead to a series of replies asking “Where’s the drop?” much to the dismay of many producers out there.

That was then and this is obviously now. The track “Dark Steering” is taken from the album Ufabulum set for release 14/15th May. The obvious question is ‘was it worth the wait’, the answer is most definitely yes. The track itself is like a very dark and twisted account of what Tron would have been like had it been an 18 certificate and involved blood and blades rather than binary beings. The video is an absolute visual treat and worth the watch even if your aren’t a fan of the music.

Squarepusher had this to say on the conception of the track ….

“For a while I had apocalyptic nightmares about trails of nuclear missiles in the night sky. So I aimed to recreate that strange combination of exhilaration, terror and sadness both visually and emotionally through this piece. It lead to the idea of a spacecraft leaving earth at vast speed to escape, but oddly the music also made me think of it flying through a library. So I generated the visual aspect such that, as the piece progresses, it seems as if the viewer is ever accelerating through massive corridors of books.”

Another Scandinavian alt-electronic pop artist, however this time she comes with a distinct edge. Described as a “Swedish electro-goth princess” and standing at 6’3 she certainly has a presence upon entering a room.

Having won a Norwegian Grammy,  toured with Azari & III and SBTRKT and is currently held in high acclaim by tastemakers like Mix Mag, she looks perched on the edge of dominating a few musical scenes.

Her new track Restless is taken from the upcoming album, released May 28th, titled Highwire Poetry. The track features electronic synths that cry out to made in the 80′s but have a definite darker and heavier edge that fits in with the current musical scene and electronic styles.

Purveyors of all things great UK bass/urban scene Black Butter Records are pretty  much charted for mad success throughout 2012, short of them leaving the planet to inhabit a second earth, make sure you check their roster and spread the love. Their newest offering comes from the duo titled Cinemtic who have teamed up with modern day jazzz/blues man Jay James Picton.

The combination is little special. Jay James Picton has just been signed to Universal, so we will no doubt be seeing more coming from him in the future whilst Cinmetic are making equal waves on the underground scene in the UK. The production is a dark, epic rolling spectacle that creates a beautiful contrast to Jay’s vocals however the two compliment each other perfectly and strike a perfect balance.

I will forever remain on the defense anytime I come across a soul brave enough to take on a Bjork remix. That’s my girl since day one, and I take her music very seriously. So now that I’ve made my point on the seriousness of this attempt I can now praise the shit out of this track. Fucking MASSIVE track here my friends!

One Little Indian  set one of there artist loose on Bjork’s last album “Biophilia” and this is the done deal…

First up is this big rework from hard edged dnb producer Current Value. Talk about setting the bar nice and high for the remixes to follow. Other producers involved in the project include Hudson Mohawke and Matthew Herbert so keep an eye out for what I hope will be some stellar tunes.

The remix series release is set for the 16th of April with this and the rest shall follow in conjunction.

Alrighty then ladies and germs, let’s kick of Thursday with some really top notch remixes of the ever controversial Lana Del Rey’s next single in line Blue Jeans – due for release on April 8th. Of course you can always pick up Born To Die if you haven’t the patience to wait for the release. Dark, vintage and ever so catchy the sound is what we’ve come to expect following Video Games, but these fresh new remixes popping up across the interwebs  have me really excited and happy for the release and open to share with you all.

From my favorite working our way down. We first take a look at RAC‘s rework of the track which in my opinion – can possibly sound better then the original. Call me bias towards le disco but there seems to be something about that delicious disco riff complimented with the echo reverb that makes this remix so unbelievably choice! Now not far from the top comes a remix from the songbird of our electro generation; Gesaffelstein. His synth-line coupled with his vintage bass just delivers, delivers, and keeps on delivering! And finally Kris Menace strips it back into something more melodic and soft just before dropping into that dance vibe. “There’s some good ass grabbing going on in here!”

We all love Scandinavians. I love Scandinavians.. All of them. My obsession may border on dangerous and at times illegal in some countries. More than the people I also love the music, they produce and release some of the most atmospheric and beautiful tracks you will ever hear. Maybe it suits the mood of the country, maybe they wile away the winters deep in their production studios creating bleak yet stunning electronic music. Who knows?

On commencing my listen of Little Jinder I was not surprised to hear how the track began, dreamy, atmospheric, relaxing, then suddenly you understand why this particular Scandinavian has been making so many waves recently and has been signed to Trouble and Bass, that bass line drops. My eyes widened and jaw dropped, it is quite a thing to behold.  The EP which features releases from Deadboy and Starkey was released today to a fitting clamour.

The unstoppable machine of Cypress X Rusko has just opened its dark and tortured doors once more to let loose the latest offering from their upcoming EP, set for release in April. This time round we get a taste of a, so far, unheard track ‘Shots Go Off’, but with a devilish remix from Ki:Theory. 

It’s hard to say how far Ki:Theory has away from the original with this. However it IS safe to assume that Rusko isn’t going to be making any tracks that sound like this anytime soon soo we’d imagine Ki;Theory has done a pretty stand up job. The track is dark and epic with deep orchestral synths and an electronic rock guitar line that shares more in common with the end of the world than a song. I have to say I have been a big fan of everything Ki:Theory has put out of late and he has certainly defined a spot for himself and his take on bass music which is cosy and roomy but lacking space for anyone else who would be king in his stead.

Teasing us, she has been for many weeks, with various snippets of remixes from her upcoming release “Mind Controller” due out in April on her own label Hussle Girl.  Finally we have been gifted with the good stuff by way of video.  The cheeky lass got to go all the way out to LA to film the vid which see’s her getting dumped by the side of the road but with a truely British stiff upper lip she makes the most of nature and the surrounding area by having a dance in the rays of the setting sun before getting on her trusted bmx and cycling back to civilisation.

“This track has been in every club set we’ve played since back in 2009, when it originally started life as a remix for drum and bass legend TC, for his track “Deep”. We never finished the mix and ended up turning it into and original production a while back, and now we’ve decided to give it away for free, freshly finished off and brought up to date.”

The remixes come very loud, very hard and full of “Oh My Gosh Did You Just Hear That” moments. Maybe the most interesting thing about all of the remixes is they somehow still retain that distinct Noisia feel. Whether that is testament to the remixers or the trio having such a distinct niche to occupy is not important.

Perfect mood setting for either a night or “raging”, front room skanking, heavy while seated head nodding, boring journeys on public transport or just a chilled night in with some very heavy basslines.

An unlikely trio, if you looked at it on paper. Rusko, Cypress Hill and Travis Barker. Well, perhaps not a Cypress Hill and Travis Barker connection but throwing Rusko into the mix seems a little bit wild, even for a group of mayhem inducing rockstars.

Away with you and throwing sensibility to wind, the musical menage a trois went ahead. The results is, in my humble opinion, a more interesting and more original sounding track than the original. Where the initial Cypress Hill X Rusko – Roll It Light It sounded more like a Rusko tune featuring vocals from Cypress, Travis puts a spin on this which creates a track equal parts electronic and analog.

The signature drums of the tattooed many of a million collaborations, shines through and give the track a definite grounding in rock rather than dubstep. While the electronic synths create atmosphere but gone are the big wobbles of the original track. Check it below and download for free.

Banging out tunes in one day – one half of the electronic duo Oliver offers this one up to you under the alias U-Tern. ‘You Don’t Know Me’ brings us back to those amazing Los Angeles Poolside sessions of Summer that are just around the corner.

Stumbled across this great video earlier that made me smile and has me sitting in anticipation to listen to the track and hopefully get the opportunity to watch the film. Big time musical talent (DJ/Producer/Jack of all trades) Mark Ronson has recently been spotted spending a significant amount of time with men and women Olympians capturing sounds from each athletes hop, skip, and a jump in order to produce a soundtrack for the 2012 London Olympics. Being that the process of allocating such sounds & creativity is fascinating for all that catch a glimpse, a film directed by Kim Gehrig entitled, “Beat 2012″ will accompany the music.

WARNING : PLAY AT MAXIMUM VOLUME

“My goal is to make the most intricate, layered, and amazing mix that’s ever been done. Period. I’m not trying to just put out a mix; I’m trying to put out a mix that other DJs will listen to and aspire TO do. I don’t fuck around. I want to be amazing.”

This quote, taken from a recent interview, sums up the Dieselboy philosophy when it comes to making mixes. There are a million lifeless djs and a million mediocre mixes.

This is not one of them.

In Wake The Dead, Dieselboy reworks 87 tracks to make an incredibly deep and textured 84 minute mix. This isn’t a rinseout of big rave anthems. This isn’t a collection of his latest top 20 tunes. This is an archive designed to stand up to repeated listens, slowly revealing new sounds and elements over time. Taking a conceptual cue from The Walking Dead and referencing what Dieselboy feels is a definite “bar lowering” of current dance / dj culture, Wake The Dead is his effort to break boundaries yet again. Featuring almost an hour of heavyweight drum and bass and another 25 minutes of blistering dubstep from his Subhuman label “family and friends”, Wake The Dead has more bass pressure than you can handle.

It’s 2012 and the “dj mix” gauntlet has been thrown.

Turn this up as loud as possible…and get ready to WAKE THE DEAD!

I honestly have no words to add that weren’t already expressed above – besides the fact that I pretty much crapped myself midway through this mix!  The layering is phenomenal! The selection is so choice! The absolute best mix I’ve heard so far in 2012! DJ’s the bar has been set extremely high. Come get some!

Man oh man. Boy oh Boy. I am still waiting for the moment to be disappointed by anything Noisia put out. Granted these aren’t wholly their tracks, they are, infact, remixes. However you understand what I am trying to say correct?

These electronic. toned, defined, and altogether striking remixes come from Posij, who is signed to Noisia’s label Deviation, and Loadstar, based out of Bristol and signed to the legendary DnB label Ram Records.

Both take the track to town, supply it with a well made but mid priced dinner for two, plough them with average wine that gets tastier as the evening continues and then heads home to have their dirty way with them. Good night and very good remixes.

Having quietly been gnawing away at the music scene for a while Jagga has declared this his moment to make the proverbial jump into the wider market. Given a choice, I doubt he could have picked better partners to aid accompany him towards journeys end. TMS take up the mantle  of production, the trio are held in high esteem having worked with Dot Rotten on his new material and various remixes along the way. They strike that sweet sweet chord between underground grime and overground accessible dubstep sounds, however they still retains credibility for having a track full of depth that avoid the approachable teenage pleasing wob wob wobble but adds just enough to wet the adolescent minds.

Jagga takes his smooth reggae and dub tinged vocals to the track adding a dreamy feel of calm and euphoria to counteract Devlins insightful and distinct lyrical tone. In my humblest of opinions these are some of the best lyrics to come out of Devlin in a long while.

After an impressive release of his Drake x Coldplay mashup project October’s Very Cold, Brooklyn, NY based producer Chi Duly is back with his sophomore remix project featuring Toronto based RnB singer;  The Weeknd. Balloons of Haus puts an uptempo spin on “The Trilogy” (House of Balloons, Thursday & Echoes of Silence). Classified as  ”I’m not really into techno”, it’s definitely upbeat but still holds the chill melodic sound that we have all come to love and bump on those stay home dinner and wine evenings.

“The concept was born of my interest in bringing The Weeknd’s vibe to a DJ set. He’s talking about what every other artist you hear in the club is talking about except he’s artistic, emotionally believable. The Weeknd’s subject matter is already club friendly. The pace however was only bedroom friendly. My project still retains that laid back, mellow uptempo R&B vibe but picks up on a harder electro vibe with the Dirty Diana remix.” – Chi Duly

This Thursday, DJ/producer, RITON is going to headline the party at LOS GLOBOS in Los Angeles. Best known as half of CARTE BLANCHE along with DJ MEHDI; Riton has been crafting intoxicating club destroyers for years.

The video for Riton’s latest single, “Dark Place”, was edited together form clips of the British comedy, “Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace”, and it’s fucking hilarious.

Los Angeles’s own, BUILDING BLOCKS & Newestra’s  LA MUERTE will be getting the crowd going with some deep nu-disco electro funk magnetic… 

If you’ve never been to Los Globos, you have no idea how well the music is going to fit the vibe of the venue.

No one could argue Metronomy produced one of the catchiest and most listenable pop tracks of last year and whilst there has been a few remixes flying around, this is by far my favourite.

The merging of styles works especially well. A dub luv-step infused vibe from TIP, gives depth and smoothness to the electro synthed indie pop of the original. You can still download the track for free from the soundcloud player below.

Even fresher than this is the “Fireside Chat” Metronomy have just added to the Rbma Radio site. Featured are many of the bands classic tracks and even some of their more famous re-works, including tracks from Lykke Li, Franz Ferdinand and Air. Check that out in the player below.

When we interviewed FELIX CARTAL a few weeks ago, he mentioned that the second single off his upcoming album, “Different Faces”, would be “Domo”. Well, the day has come, it was released today.

The song builds up with a nice melody and beat, and you think it’s going to sound a lot like, “Don’t Turn On The Lights”, but then it goes into a completely different direction.

I’m looking forward to the remixes, seems like there is a lot you could do with this song.

Cartal has one more single due out at the beginning of March, and then “Different Faces” comes out March 27, on DIM MAK.

Also, check out his podcast, “The Weekend Workout”. It’s a mix he puts out every other Thursday, and sometimes he’ll throw in a new song. This week he mixed in “Domo’ and WOLFGANG GARTNER’s “There and Back”. You can get them on Soundcloud or ITunes.

Shoe Scene Symphony has landed! Who are these guys and where on earth did they come from?! Not much is known about these two as a duo (just yet.) But Franz “DJ Antidote” Salvador & Andy “DeeJay Bandoma” are two  fellas out of Orange County, Southern California who are no strangers to the local DJ community. Both have been in the DJ game for well over 10 years. Both have seen the spotlight in the passed as they are very skilled DMC battle turntablists turn EDM producers. Yes my friends these two can do some serious damage on the ones and two’s – AND now continuing the demolition with their new rhythmic venture; Shoe Scene Symphony. Enjoy!

These kindly gents are being touted as the UK’s answer to The Wknd. Personally, not a big fan of comparisons like that but you can quite obviously hear the similarities. Although Seasfire seems to parade on the more “indie” side of the fence rather than RnB or soul. That being said there is such a depth to their music one genre doesn’t really seem to do them justice, and judging by their older tracks on their soundcloud, they don’t like to stick to one sound either.

The video below is for upcoming single “Falling” set for release Feb 27th. The guys are still pretty young in the grand scheme of things. A mere 566 fans on Facebook and barely a properly tagged video on Youtube. Get in early on this one and make sure you score “I was a fan before they were big” bragging rights.

The dark and shady figure known only to a few as A.Chal is back again with another stunning set of visuals and a dark deep bass heavy mix of his distinct stylised tunes.

The press release I received is a stroke of genius and is basically a tweet, sent out by A.Chal, which gives a short quote about the mix and what it means to him.

First up is from the talented young frenchman Pyramid, which blesses us with a breezed transition of vocals with a electronic bounce, with foxes keeping the vocals solid, the two seemed to compliment the other in a dazzling remix for early 2012. Keep a ear out for this young gun, word on the street is that his name will be in the mix with icons such as Daft Punk, Justice and many more.

To push over in more of a serious type of baseline, the Montreal duo Adventure Club amazes ear drums with some dub step translation of what Foxes vocals can really do, keeping the flow going, they keep the remix smooth by letting the vocals do what they do and complimenting when needed. Expect big thing from all of these artist, as there music and renditions have made for some great creative music.

First, we have the new FEIST video, “The Bad In Each Other”, off of her latest album, Metals. At first, I thought it was a trailer for an Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amorres Perros, Babel) film.  I was wrong. It was directed by Martin De Thurah, who’s done videos for James Blake and Royksopp, in the past.

Feist wrote on her blog, “You could think about the video like a song or a poem, and different people will connect to different things- and those connections might be different from time to time when they watch it.”

Next, “Montreal” from THE WEEKND‘s third Mixtape, Echoes of Silence. This video was created by the HIGHFIVECOLLECTIVE, who have been cranking out dope music videos all year. They’ve done videos for Kanye & Jay-Z, Frank Ocean and Amy Winehouse. In this one, they take you inside a creepy, domestic situation.

Finally, we have another, tripped out, video from DIE ANTWOORD. “I Finky U Freeky”, the second single off, Ten$ion, was directed by NINJA and Roger Ballen, a famous South African Photographer. You can see Ballen’s influence through his photographs.

Being from the sunny and ever so friendly shores of the United Kingdom we do pretty well musically. Rock n Roll, dubstep (obviously), garage, pop, folk etc etc. We can plant a flag in the sand and say, at least, some of the biggest artists in the world within their respective genres started here. One musical facet we have never quite mastered though is Hip-Hop. Maybe it is so engrained in US culture that the UK product doesn’t translate. Only recently has some of our hip-hop talent started to make their way slowly across the pond and infiltrate the wider market.

That being said I’m am sad to have missed out on this apparently very essential part of hip hop culture. I’m pretty lost for words so I will leave it up to the professionals to let you know what this is all about

The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show is the best hip hop radio show of all time, period. Broadcasting out of Columbia University’s WKCR every Thursday night from 1am to 5am between 1990 and 1998, Adrian “Stretch Armstrong” Bartos and Robert “Bobbito” Garcia launched the career of countless MC’s from the East coast, including Nas, The Notorious B.I.G, Big Pun, and Busta Rhymes to name but a few. With their witty commentary, razor-sharp mixing skills and obsessive passion for unearthing the next freshest beat and rhyme in the universe, they had fans around the world on lock and inspired generations of radio hosts to come. Big L and Jay-Z freestyling back to back? Check. Dubplates cut from demo tapes at Sugar Minott’s Brooklyn studio? Check. Legendary on-air phone calls with aspiring rappers? Check. The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show was more than a radio show. It was the epitome of 90s New York rap, the backbone of an industry (without ever being part of the industry), and still ranks as one of the greatest documents of that era. Both Stretch and Bob have long gone on to engage in other ventures, running labels, making movies and of course DJing solo around the globe. In January 2012 though, they reunited for a lecture and DJ set during the Red Bull Music Academy Session in San Francisco. Break Science are back in a big old way. They are releasing their new EP Monolith Code today (january 31st) on Pretty Lights Music and to celebrate are giving away a free download of track “Victory”.

The EP is host to the distinct sounds that we have come to expect from the Pretty Lights camp, pushing out something that is a hybrid of hip-hop, soul, electronic, dubstep, dub, breaks and alt rock. The Break Science guys say they have created the EP using half automated digital sounds and the other half using a live element. For me the live element is the stand out aspect of the EP. With raging alt-rock guitar lines steaming through and such a dense layered production you can listen to the EPover and over again and still find something new.

How long have we been asking for a  Jack White solo project? Pretty damn long if you ask me! Well today my friends he brings us, “Love Interruption” the first single of his debut album, Blunderbuss, out April 24th on Third Man Records/Columbia.

“Love Interruption” is an amazing slow, guitar strum track on some The Black Keys riffs and some of his previous work under The White Stripes. Short, sweet and a good taste of what’s to come 2012. Enjoy!

Dubstep here, Dubstep there, Dubstep everywhere these days, oy vey! Here’s a bit of dubstep news that doesn’t annoy me, in fact I’m really stoked to get my hands on this here – a perfect music collaboration (in my humble opinion). The Skints seem to have some rolling thunder at their backs as currently every time I go online I am met with something new. The more I have an artists shoved in my face the more I’m inclined to shun said artist, ignore every single person who wills wear blindly that this IS their best track ever and they ARE the most influential producer or singer to come out in the past 10 years.

The Skints seem to be the exception to that rule. They strike a very sincere vibe both with their video and their sound, you can almost smell the cleanliness and purity that comes with not being attached to an enormous fad churning label, with the sole intention of getting their buck back and finding ways to make young teens part with their cash.

The single “Ratatat” is slated for release February 27th. Check the video belowwww.

A few days ago, Derek Vincent Smith, A.K.A. PRETTY LIGHTS, came out with a new song and music video called,”We Must Go On”. You might remember him from working on the RE:Generation Music Project, where he teamed up with LeAnn Rimes & Dr. Ralph Stanley, or when he remixed one of John Denver’s songs.

There’s no Country sound in “We Must Go On”, it’s a hip-hop song with soulful guitar licks, yazz flutes and vocal samples that float in and out perfectly. The video was filmed and edited by Smith, and his girlfriend, Krystle Blackburn. It captures the grind of living in a city, with images of tired, beat down city dwellers juxtaposed with images of children, flowers and ends with a shot of the sun coming out of the clouds. The good cinematography and clever editing make for a great visual piece to go with the audio. I hope those two keep collaborating for future videos.

Growing up as a Hip-Hop head in Southern California during the 1990′s it was impossible to not know who the Beat Junkies were. If you turned on the radio more often than not, there was a member of the Beat Junkies behind the decks. The Junkies were not only on the radio but are also members of such West Coast underground rap groups like Dilated Peoples and Visionaries. This year marks 20 years of the Beat Junkie sound system invading everyone’s ears, and I hope that we have 20 more years to come!

As we can all clearly see through the amount of internet circulation he’s been getting, masked London bass-pop producer SBTRKT had a gnarly 2011. Like all artists – gem upon gem of unreleased material usually see’s the light of day once they hit it big! We got one right here ladies and mates, the never-released 2009 track “Atomic Peace,” which SBTRKT recently posted to his Soundcloud. A couple of days ago, I sat down with DIM MAK‘s, FELIX CARTAL, at the Dim Mak offices in Hollywood. We talked about the music video for his new single, “Don’t Turn On the Lights”, music and what he has in store for the future.

After circling the block, I finally figured out which building I was supposed to be looking for. As I’m getting out of the car Felix and his Manager pull up behind us, coming back form a food run. We greet each other and they open the door into the Dim Mak offices.

The place is an office/warehouse, with merch all over the place and a handful of employees working away on their laptops. I was lead a rainbow-colored staircase, the steps weren’t painted with a rainbow pattern, each step was painted a different color, to a loft with a some couches, a nice desk and a few more employees with laptops.

I played with one of guy’s dog, while Felix had his first experience with a Tommy’s burger, and all it’s chili-cheese glory.

Then, we talked.

Sadly I was disappointed to discover that Lana Del Rey‘s performance on Saturday Night Live last week was short of a train wreck, I saw that ish for myself and it was weeeell, not pretty. Nonetheless, I’m still stoked for her album to drop Jan.30th and continue to search the interwebs for some really bitchen remixes of her music. With such a unique style, it’s really hard to come across quality remakes but once in awhile something radical falls on your lap!

The radical remix findings today come in the form of Drum & Bass from Marcus Intalex.  Marcus Intalex‘s “Born to Die” remix for example, its relatively simple formula of warm, dark basslines and moody synths that compliment Del Rey’s dreary theatrical voice perfectly.

Dubstep. It’s turning into a dirtier work every time someone talks about it, and that seems to happen ALOT. Being lucky enough to live in London, I’d like to think we get the “unfiltered” version of the sound that still holds it roots in deep bass and not so many wobbles.

When people do talk Dubstep the conversations always seem to run the same route. Expect to hear, in a self righteous tone, “It isn’t what it used to be…..”, “Dubstep is dead….., “I heard dubstep on MTV today, mainstream has ruined it……” blah blah blah. Though some of this is undoubtedly true, and Dubstep has become massive, getting regular mainstream airplay through several of its leading heads. It seems a little narrow minded and lazy to say that the entire genre is dead. It doesn’t take alot of searching to find the guys that are still making the tunes that lay house to the original sound and have resisted the temptation to make crowd pleasing wobblers.

With that in mind we would like to introduce Hatcha and his Headphone Highlights. Within this playlists is a treasure chest of Big Apples earliest records, some unreleased, some extremely early tracks from the infamous Skream and Benga. I can guarantee there is at least one track in here you have never heard before. A very very good education in the way it all began.

“It’s fair to say that Hatcha’s name is as axe-sharp as his dubplate skills and few DJs have had as much influence on the course of dubstep as Croydon’s own. An original FWD>> resident, Hatcha shaped early dubstep by cutting exclusive dubs from Skream, Benga and Digital Mystikz, and also helped name the genre by describing Benny Ill’s dubby 2-step records as “dubstep”. Starting out at Big Apple Records, and mixing the first ‘Dubstep Allstars’ comp on Tempa, he is now building his own ’100% Pure Dubstep’ compilations, hosting a regular show on London’s Kiss FM, and running the Sin City night and label. The sound of London’s bass music scene wouldn’t be the same without him!”

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day everyone! Let’s continue his dream with this bit of news… For those of you unaware, our man Mos Def – or shall we say the artist/actor formerly known as Mos Def is now called Yasiin Bey. Yasiin recently released his take on Kanye and Jay-Z’s anthemic “N***s in Paris,” with “Niggas in Poorest.”

An installment of Yasiin’s Top 40 Underground freestyle project, which aims to remake forty well known tracks in a completely different perspective. Tell us what you think?
