+ Arcade Fire & Wyclef Jean = "Haiti"

All right familia, on a serious note. Unless you have been hanging underneath a rock for the last week, you know by now that on Tuesday a massive 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti 25 miles from capital Port-au-Prince. The damage was devastating and could not have hit a more unprepared and poorly-equipped nation. The images of the destruction have dominated the media as of late and it is reported that some 50,000 people have lost their lives as a result of the quake.

Haiti is hurting and the world is feeling the pain. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with about 80 percent of its citizens living below the poverty level. Over the years the nation was also battered by a series of hurricanes, which has already tapped out and exposed the country’s poor emergency response capabilities.

Tuesday’s earthquake seemed to crush whatever hope the country had left.

Since then, however, the reaction from international governments and individuals has been nothing short of remarkable as mankind has tried to provide hope to an island nation in a very dark hour. Among those who’ve aided the rescue efforts is Régine Chassagne, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist for Arcade Fire, who recently posted a letter to the band’s website asking for help for her Haitian people.

Rapper Wyclef Jean is the voice behind the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund you have seen across all social networks web-wide. Yea people, that is not spam but rather a plead for help yo.

They are asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can click here to DONATE.
